Captain Marvel is getting ready to fly again—by tethering herself to the ground. Brie Larson recently shared a clip from her training for upcoming MCU sequel The Marvels to Instagram, in which she can be seen performing a kettlebell goblet squat—with added resistance courtesy of a flywheel.
Larson is doing this belted variation of a goblet squat on a Go-Exxentric machine. This means that in addition to controlling her core in order to keep her upper body stable, the belt is pulling her down to the ground faster, so she has to work hard to resist that.
“How many pieces of work out equipment does it take to become a super hero? All of them!” She wrote in the caption, while her trainer, Jason Walsh, commented that this resisted variation makes for a “fun finisher” to a training session. In another recent post, Larson joked that she still tries to find ways to avoid completing her workouts, and that Walsh has got into the habit of adding resistance bands to the program to make sure she stays put. (Case in point: this banded pushup.)
Larson’s workout playlist stays on point, too. After recently hitting a personal record in single-armed pushups to ‘Jealousy, Jealousy’ by Olivia Rodrigo, this time around the Captain Marvel star is crushing it to ‘No Tears Left to Cry’ by Ariana Grande.
The actress has been providing regular updates on her latest superhero transformation. She developed a real passion for fitness while preparing for Captain Marvel, during which she built strength to the point that she was deadlifting over 200 pounds. Now that she’s back in training post-quarantine, Larson is determined to go higher, further and faster for the sequel, developing her upper and lower body strength through moves like the one-armed pullup and Bulgarian split squat.
