Adama Niane dead – Netflix’s Lupin star dies aged 56 as co-stars pay tribute

French actor, Adama Niane, who starred as assassin Léonard Kone in hit Netflix show Lupin, has passed away at the age of 56.

His co-star, actor Omar Sy shared the sad news to Twitter, writing in French: "I extend my deep condolences to the loved ones of Adama Niane, an immense actor alongside whom I had the chance and the pleasure of playing. A man of rare benevolence… May his soul rest in peace."

The late actor had a successful career in French cinema, starring in numerous films including Get In and Baise-Moi.

Olivier Abbou, the director of Get In shared another message of mourning to his Instagram page, where he wrote: "It is with immense sadness that I learned of the passing of Adam Niane, with whom I had the pleasure of working on the 2 seasons of Maroni and Fury.

"We haven’t left each other for 4 years, sharing intense human and artistic adventures at the end of the world, Guyana, St Pierre and Miquelon and even Lille.

"He was engaged, lit, whole, talented, powerful. He was my hero, a friend, and an accomplice. Go in peace."

Fans have also shared tributes to the late actor, with one writing: "Wow… he was a model of simplicity and humility. I crossed his path in the 90s… A man of rare kindness and elegance… Smile for the eternity of a gavroche, may peace be with you…"

Another added: "Such sad news Adama Niane I worked with him on the slip and slide series A pro actor and immensely relatable. RIP dear friend."

While a third wrote: "Deepest condolences to his family. Quite a loss" and fourth said: "way too young to leave this earth."

Adama was born in Paris in 1966 and started his acting career in theatre during the 1980s, having studied dramatic arts.

The last production he worked on was the 2022 TV mini series L'lle aux 30 Cercueils (The Island of 30 Coffins), in which he played the role of Yannick Lantry.

Among the other films that Niane starred in were Felicita (2020), The Bare Necessity (2019), Gang of the Caribbean (2016) and SK1 (2014).

He also claimed TV credits for shows such as Alex Hugo (2021), Sam (2019-2021), Inhuman Resources (2020), Prise au Piege (2019), Troubled Waters (2019) and La Mante (2017).
