Angelina Jolie has spoken about her marriage to Brad Pitt and their divorce, which was finalised in 2019, opening up on fearing for her children’s rights and the safety of her “whole family”.
The 46 year old mum-of-six gave a rare interview to The Guardian where she discussed the breakdown in her marriage, and how the pair are still locked in an ongoing legal situation despite finalising their divorce settlement two years ago.
“I’m still in my own legal situation,” she told the publication when asked about whether she’s had to worry about her children’s rights. “I can’t speak about that.”
But when questioned over whether she was specifically talking about her divorce to Brad and the allegations, Angelina said she was sworn to silence and “nodded” instead.
Then asked if she had feared for the safety of her children, the Maleficent actress answered: “Yes, for my family. My whole family.”
The global UN ambassador filed for divorce from her husband in 2016, after an incident that took place with their adopted son Maddox, now 20, on a private plane.
Brad, 57, denied ever being physically abusive but admitted to having an alcohol addiction and that he shouted at one of his children.
The Once Upon A Time In Hollywood star was cleared of any wrongdoing over the private plane incident.
OK! has contacted a representative for Brad Pitt.
Despite not being able to talk clearly about her experiences, Angelina, who is set to star in new Marvel epic The Eternals, told the publication that the decision to divorce Brad was a difficult one.
“I’m not the kind of person who makes decisions like the decisions I had to make lightly,” she shared.
“It took a lot for me to be in a position where I felt I had to separate from the father of my children.”
What’s more, the Girl, Interrupted Oscar winner still insisted she wants her family to move forward and “heal”, and has been left feeling “broken” by her divorce.
“All of us, including their dad. I want us to heal and be peaceful. We’ll always be a family,” the star added.
The former couple were once Hollywood royalty and couple goals – nicknamed Brangelina.
They met on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith and started dating in 2005, but didn’t choose to make it official and tie the knot until 2014, after pressure from their children.
The parents share children Maddox, 20, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 13.
Brad and his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston recently sparked rumours they'd rekindled their romance when they were spotted taking selfies at an awards ceremony.
