Country superstar Brandi Carlile took home the Americana Award for Artist of The Year at the Americana Honors & Awards ceremony held at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, last Wednesday.
Carlile praised her 3 competitors in the category in her touching acceptance speech, saying, “Rhiannon Giddens is one of the most important artists of this generation, Kacey Musgraves did something new and special (with “Golden Hour”), and it’s really hard to do something new anymore” and that Mavis Staples “took a DNA test; it turns out she is 100 percent That Legend.”
The other big winner of the night was John Prine, whose Tree of Forgiveness was deemed the Album of the Year. His track “Summer’s End” from the album also won in the category of Song of The Year.
