Coleen Rooney’s Wagatha Instagram traps in pictures – gender selection to basement flood

The Instagram posts Coleen Rooney used as part of her so-called ‘Wagatha Christie’ sting were revealed in full, in official court documents.

Suspecting one of the people who followed her private Instagram was leaking stories about her to the press, Coleen infamously masterminded an operation which, she says, involved blocking accounts and posting fake stories.

In her bombshell October 2019 post, she concluded: “It’s……… Rebekah Vardy’s account.”

Her fellow WAG Rebekah, the wife of Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, immediately denied the allegation and soon took legal action, suing Coleen for libel. The case has now been heard at London’s High Court and after a nearly two month long wait, a verdict has been reached.

On July 29, it was announced that Mrs Vardy lost her libel claim against Coleen Rooney.

In her ruling, Mrs Justice Steyn said it was “likely” that Mrs Vardy’s agent at the time, Caroline Watt, “undertook the direct act” of passing the information to The Sun.

But she added: “Nonetheless, the evidence … clearly shows, in my view, that Mrs Vardy knew of and condoned this behaviour, actively engaging in it by directing Ms Watt to the private Instagram account, sending her screenshots of Mrs Rooney’s posts, drawing attention to items of potential interest to the press, and answering additional queries raised by the press via Ms Watt."

The judge added: “In my judgment, the conclusions that I have reached as to the extent to which the claimant engaged in disclosing to The Sun information to which she only had access as a permitted follower of an Instagram account which she knew, and Mrs Rooney repeatedly asserted, was private, suffice to show the single meaning is substantially true.”

As well as taking to the stand, both women submitted hundreds of pages of evidence – with Coleen sharing copies of the posts she used for the trap.

The mum-of-four shared a series of false stories on Instagram, including hints that she and footballer husband Wayne Rooney were considering having a fifth child.

Here, we look at all the posts Coleen shared to her personal page that were revealed to the court during the Wagatha Christie trial…

The gender reveal

One photo shared to Coleen's Instagram Story, featured the pack of a plane seat with a small TV. Coleen – who has four sons, Kai, 12, Klay, eight, Kit, six, and Cass, four, with husband Wayne, captioned the photo: "Let's go and see what this gender selection is all about," followed by a grimacing face emoji and a string of pink hearts.

She later shared another Story thanking people for their messages, and said that Wayne wanted a little girl.

“Would be nice but let's see what happens,” Coleen went on.

Another court document reveals Rebekah sent a screengrab of this to agent Caroline Watts, adding: “Seriously f**k off no one really cares.” Caroline replied that Coleen was “defo posting to see if someone is saying this stuff to the press”.

Basement flood

Coleen shared a snap of a bottle of wine to her story, writing: "Needed after today. Flood in the basement of our new house… when it all seemed to be going so well".

An article written by The Sun in October 2019 claimed that the flood was a result of Storm Leo.

A source told the publication at the time: "The house is Wayne and Coleen’s dream, so to see it being damaged has been horrible for them.

“Coleen has been hard at work with the architects and builders since she came back to the UK from America with the boys. She wants to get the place perfect for when Wayne moves back permanently from his US footie club to join them in January.

“She was called in to find the cellar had been flooded. It was really upsetting."

Guard dog

Sharing a snap of what a German Shepherd, Coleen teased she wanted a puppy, but told her followers that the family was going to get a guard dog instead.

She wrote: “Looks like I won’t be getting my cute puppy…. Looks like it’s going to be security dog instead.”

“Been hearing of too many break ins lately.”

Wayne’s wife’s comments came after one of Jamie and Rebekah Vardy’s neighbours phoned the police in 2016 while he was away at the Euros after they spotted someone acting suspiciously around their home. Rebekah and their kids were thought to have been home at the time.

The family photo

Coleen was extremely unimpressed when a photograph of her and her sons was described to a newspaper. The star had posted a sweet snap of Wayne and tree of their kids in matching pyjamas while in bed, alongside the caption “the boys in their spots”.

After an article about the picture appeared in a paper, a furious Coleen posted: “The GRASS strikes again,” she wrote.

“I put that picture on wondering if it would appear in that HORRIBLE newspaper.”

The Australia move

Alongside a selfie, Coleen posted on her Story: “Up and out!! Easing my way back into work!! TV decisions today.”

Tagging Wayne’s cousin Claire Rooney, she added: “Maybe it’s time for Australia @claireroon.”

The wine, guard dog and Australia Story screengrabs submitted to the court by Coleen show that just one account had viewed the posts – which she says is Rebekah Vardy’s.
