Dani Dyer admits she ‘learnt on the job’ with baby Santi as she ‘didn’t know what to do’

Dani Dyer has admitted she "learnt on the job" when it came to baby Santiago and felt as though she didn't "know what to do."

The former Love Island star – who gave birth to baby son Santiago in January – opened up about motherhood on her podcast, Sorted With The Dyers, which she runs with her father, Eastenders actor Danny Dyer.

The star is has been a single mum since her ex-boyfriend, Dammy Kimmence, was jailed earlier this year.

Speaking about becoming a parent, Dani's father said: “You’re never really ready to become a parent. There’s never a moment in your mind where you go ‘ding! I’m ready’.

"I’m three kids in and have a grandson, I still struggle with being a father. What’s the right move? What's the right advice? How am I affecting these children to know their brains and nurture them? I don't know, I still trying to figure out who the f*** I am.”

Dani agreed with her famous dad, adding: "You just learn on the job too. I remember having Santi and mummy was so amazing but I remember thinking ‘I don't know what to do’.”

Danny reassured his daughter, adding: "All you need is to be kind and loving and give affection. And if you can keep that up, then you’re onto a winner. That’s children’s currency; they need to feel safe and they need to feel secure.”

Continuing the discussion, Dani added: "Kids, all they want, is to be loved and safe. Like Santi knows his little places, he gets used to them. When he has people around him he knows and loves, he’s himself.”

Eastenders actor Danny then recalled a family meal recently when his brother held Santi.

He said: "My brother is really good with kids but Santi doesn’t know him and he started to have a whinge and he looked at his grandad, me, and I took him and his little face calmed down when he was in my arms. And that’s the ultimate f***ing feeling.”

Dani agreed that Santi loves his grandad as she added: "He loves you so much, doesn’t he? Even I remember thinking I wasn’t ready. But I was so ready for my little boy.”

Danny then reassured his daughter: "No one’s ever ready really, but of course you’ve proved to everyone your doing it and your f***ing smashing it.”

The Love Island star then confirmed she loves being a mum, adding: "Yeah and I love it, I love being a mum.”

Danny said: “And you’re doing it by yourself which is hard.”
