Frankie Bridge defends herself after backlash for putting her dog in a nappy

Frankie Bridge has defended herself after some of her followers shared their anger at her decision to put her puppy Leia in a nappy.

The former Saturdays star, who also shares Maltipoo dog Turbo, among others, with her husband Wayne Bridge, was incensed by the judgemental messages filling her Instagram inbox.

It came after Frankie, 33, posted a snap of her adorable Cavapoochon puppy wearing what appeared to be a baby's nappy.

Many of the star's followers accused her of being "lazy" and "not bothering" to toilet train her newest pooch in the comments.

But the Loose Women star explained it was actually due to female pup Leia currently being in season.

This refers to a dog's fertile period when they are able to get pregnant and can also bleed.

Responding to the slew of private messages she'd also received, Frankie began: "Someone is in season and feeling very sorry for herself… I feel you Leia.

"Just for the people confused in my inbox and assuming I can't be a**ed to toilet train my dog."

The singer then added an emoji of a hand sticking up its middle finger for extra emphasis over her thoughts on unsolicited opinions.

Cavapoochons are crosses between a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, a poodle and a bichon frise, and are pedigree dogs.

Former I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Frankie announced her bundle of puppy joy in the summer, just over a year after welcoming her dog Turbo.

"We’ve had a girl! Meet Leia Bridge …" the star began her post at the time.

"Yes as in Princess Leia… guess who named her?! We are all totally in love… as you can see… she’s slotted right in…

The star added with a giggle: "Turbo is currently not convinced and wondering when she’s going to go home?!"

It comes after Frankie opened up on the reality of the festive period as she continues to work on her mental health with therapy.

The TV star told her followers that Christmas “isn’t all parties” after she finished one session with “puffy eyes” from crying.

Sharing a snap of herself looking exhausted in her Instagram stories, she told her 1.5 million followers: "Those after therapy puffy eyes and a red runny nose… cos Christmas isn't all parties and presents.”
