Chris Ashby-Steed rose to fame on Gogglebox alongside on-screen partner Stephen Webb in 2013. After leaving the show in 2018, he said he felt “depressed and suicidal”. The reality star said he suffered with his mental health after falling out with his ex partner and co-star.

The pair agreed to do the show together despite splitting up romantically as they were still friends, but a project away from the show caused them to fall out.

He previously told The Mirror: “There have been times where I’ve felt so low that I think, ‘How can I kill myself?’”

Now, his husband Tony Ashby-Steed has claimed the show didn’t contact him about his wellbeing following his departure.

His comment came after Paige Deville announced she had quit the show on Twitter last week.

In response, he wrote: “@Paige_deville they don’t seem to give a damn about the people below the superficial, it’s all about ratings and awards, not people.

“Even when it came out that being forced off the show made Chris suicidal, they didn’t contact him once!”

He went on to accuse the show of imposing a “gagging order” on his spouse to “stop the story coming out”.

“Awful people the lot of them. You’re better off away from it, hun xxx,”(sic) he added.

Tony went on to claim they had formally complained to the show, who allegedly replied that they would take legal action.

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Gogglebox for comment.

25-year-old cast member Paige rose to fame on the show with her mum Sally Hayward.

Last week, she accused the show of giving her “zero support” after stepping down.

She wrote on Twitter: “I have made the decision to walk away from Gogglebox.

“It’s been an experience but one I cannot continue with due to long hours of filming, restrictiveness, control of our actions and opinions & zero aftercare support but hey who cares about ex cast, their NTA winners.”

The reality star made her comments after the show won a National Television Award for Factual Entertainment Programme earlier this month.

The gong was accepted by Tom and Julie Malone, the Sandiford siblings and the team behind-the-scenes.

The following day, she revealed she was no longer on speaking terms with her mum.

She told Birmingham Live: “There have been problems within the family and my mum was given an ultimatum.

“The decision means I have nothing to do with her now.

“I think the decision is irreversible. It is very sad but that’s life unfortunately.”

The lash artist went on to say she was invited back to work with another family member on the show, but declined.

In response to Paige’s comment, a show spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “The welfare of contributors – past and present – is of paramount importance and robust protocols are in place to support contributors before, during and after taking part in the series.”
