Iggy Azalea has posted a powerful statement in support of Britney Spears, claiming she “witnessed” the superstar’s dad Jamie Spears’ controlling behaviour when they worked together.

Britney, 39, and Australian rapper Iggy, 31, joined together to make the popular track Pretty Girls back in 2015.

The duo then spent time promoting their catchy dance track and performing together.

Sharing a series of written posts on her Twitter page, Iggy began her outpouring with the hashtag Free Britney.

“It’s basic human decency to at the very least remove a person Britney has identified as abusive from her life. This should be illegal,” Iggy said.

“During the time we worked together in 2015, I personally witnessed the same behaviour Britney detailed in regards to her father last week and I just want to back her up and tell the world that: She is not exaggerating or lying.

“I saw her restricted from even the most bizarre and trivial things: like how many sodas she was allowed to drink,” the musician continued. “Why is that even necessary?”

Iggy then explained her own personal experience with Jamie, who is in control of his daughter’s financial affairs and conservatorship.

Fans may remember seeing Iggy and Britney deliver some truly epic performances together onstage, but the star said the Louisiana-born businessman had told her she had to sign an NDA – Non Disclosure Agreement – or she wouldn’t be allowed to go on.

“Her father conveniently waited until literally moments before our BMAs performance when I was backstage in the dressing room and told me if I did not sign an NDA he would not allow me on stage,” Iggy claimed.

“The way he went about getting me to sign a contract, sounded similar to the tactics Britney spoke about last week in regards to her Las Vegas show.

“Jamie Spears has a habit of making people sign documents while under Duress it seems, and Britney Spears should not be forced to co-exist with that man when she’s made it clear it is negatively impacting her mental health.

“This is not right at all,” Iggy added.

The singer’s impassioned plea joins a host of other high-profile celebrities speaking out in support of the mum-of-two.

Justin Timberlake declared “what’s happening to her is just not right”, and Britney also received encouragement from Mariah Carey and others.

Most recently, the Toxic hitmaker’s younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears, 30, finally broke her silence with a series of video stories on her Instagram.

The actress insisted she “loves her sister” and has been waiting to be “led by her”, adding that now Britney has given her own public statement in court she feels she can share her own views.
