Alex Jones, 44, and Matt Baker, 43, delighted viewers tonight as they both appeared on The One Show for the first time since Matt’s exit. During the segment, Matt spoke about how pleased he was to finally be able to “publicly” congratulate Alex on her baby news.

Speaking on the show tonight, Matt told his former co-star how happy he was for her.

He said: “It’s so wonderful Al that we can talk about your news publicly as well now, which is marvellous.

“So publicly, huge congratulations.”

Alex was moved by his message, responding: “Oh thank you so much.”

The presenter announced that she was having a third child on the show last week.

She said: “It just seems like a good time to share some news with everybody, and the crew in the studio for the first time.

“Lockdown’s been anything but predictable and we’ve had some really unexpected news – baby number three is on the way!”

She also revealed the new baby will be her first girl on the show.

Along with her husband Charlie Thomson, the pair are already parents to Teddy, four, and Kit, one.

This is not the first time Matt addressed the news as he previously posted a comment on her Instagram announcement.

He wrote: “Beautiful News- just sorry I’m not there to cover your Maternity this time around XXX.”

The pair clearly share a great bond as Alex also said hello to Matt’s wife Nicola Mooney during the interview.

Despite the star not being able to hear her, the pair blew each other kisses.

Matt was on the show to talk about his new series Our Farm in the Dales.

Airing on More4 tonight, the show sees Matt return to his family farm when his mother was injured.

The four-part documentary sees the Countryfile host and his family move to his parent’s home in Durham.

This was after his mother Janice was knocked over by a flock of sheep in July 2020.

Speaking on The One Show about it, he said: “So many times I’ve been asked to make things from the farm but it was a situation that we found ourselves in.

“Mum had this really nasty accident in the sheep pens and basically we knew we needed to reshape the farm.

“And at the heart of this programme, it’s all about how the tables turned.

“When we’re at a certain stage in our family lives where we end up looking after our parents.”

The One Show airs on BBC One at 7pm on weekdays.
