That’s a picture of R. Kelly from a tour in 2016–I’m not being some kind of ominous troll by using it, I just chose it as the one to use randomly. R. Kelly has seen an influx of bad news on top of his already crap-stained human existence. He was hit with a ton more charges which carry sentences of up to 30 years in prison–which he’s now pleading not guilty to. And also his ex-manager has been charged for alleged death threats related to one of the girls allegedly brainwashed and sexually manipulated by R. Kelly.
AP News says that R. Kelly pleaded not guilty to the 11 new charges against him. While in court in Chicago, Kelly told the judge: “Yes, sir,” when asked if he understood the charges, so we’re not going to be getting no bullshit “he didn’t understand!” later down the road this time. Prosecutors didn’t ask to raise the bond for Kelly, probably because they know he’s so strapped for cash. It’s like what’s the point?
Four of the news charges are counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, which he could get sentenced to up to thirty years in jail for if convicted. Earlier in the day, the lawyers for R. Kelly still told AP News that they expected to prevail at trial.
In other news, his ex-manager might need to be reaching out to R. Kelly’s lawyers himself, or maybe they have their hands full and can refer him? Because he’s been charged for uttering death threats to a girl’s family.
Vulture reports that James Mason, was indicted yesterday on the felony charge of making death threats which could earn him up to ten years in jail. James allegedly threatened Timothy Savage–the father of Joycelyn Savage, girlfriend of R. Kelly and allegedly brainwashed by him. Tim went to police last year after Mason called him allegedly saying:
“I’m gonna do harm to you and your family, when I see you I’m gonna get you, I’m going to fucking kill you.”
Super chill casual phone call to receive. August 2018 the police issued an arrest warrant for James but he was eventually released on bail. Now he is fully indicted and is going to be facing trial.
A lawyer for the Savage family gave a statement:
“Today’s indictment of Henry James Mason, former manager of R. Kelly, further underscores the public accountability that victims and families are pressing on R. Kelly and his team. The Savage family will not be bullied or threatened in their quest to reunite with Joycelyn. Let this be a message to all associates of Robert Sylvester Kelly that the Savages are serious about justice and accountability.”
So yeah, I didn’t use that dark angel for any particular reason. Not because it seems like the walls are finally closing in on R. Kelly and his subordinates. Certainly not because it seems as though the wings of karma are swooping in for a landing. Not because all that tape evidence the feds allegedly have will hopefully bring about swift justice. It was just a casual choice.
