Charlie Watts’ wife Shirley, 80, is currently mourning the loss of her long-term spouse, who died yesterday. The Rolling Stones legend died peacefully surrounded by his family following an age-related illness. In the pair’s final public snap together last year, the drummer cut a suave figure in a beige suit with a brown top and matching shoes.

Shirley also beamed for the camera wearing casual attire consisting of a blue jacket, jeans and trainers.

The couple posed for a picture alongside their new rescue dog Suzie, who they adopted from the Forever Hounds Trust.

The animal charity shared the snap on their Twitter page, writing: “We are so excited for our Suzie, who has found her #ForeverHome with @RollingStones drummer Charlie Watts and his wife Shirley.

“Shirley is an Honorary Friend of Forever Hounds Trust and Suzie, their new companion, was rescued from the greyhound racing industry.”

Many of the charity’s followers commented on the picture at the time.

One wrote: “Awesome news! Be happy Suzie!”

A second added: “Congratulations Charlie, Shirley and Suzie!”

A third commented: “Isn’t she a beauty! Congrats and lucky u two!”(sic)

The charity retweeted a tribute to the late drummer on their page yesterday.

Hollywood Dogs wrote: “I am so sad to hear that Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has passed away.

“In 2020 he and his wife Shirley adopted a rescued greyhound from @ForeverHoundsUK.

“Shirley is a Patron & supporter of the animal charity.”

The couple married in 1964 and share one daughter Seraphina Watts, 52, together.

The latter is mum to 25-year-old Charlotte Watts, a model who hit the headlines when her stuffed wolf Frostbite was stolen from her London home.

Charlie’s death came just weeks after it was revealed he would miss the Rolling Stones’ US tour next month to recover from an unspecified medical procedure.

He was previously treated for throat cancer in 2004.

The drummer’s band mates Sir Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards have respectively paid tribute to their late band mate.

Yesterday, Mick wrote on Instagram: “I am so sad baby. We will miss him.”

Ronnie added in a tribute: “I love you my fellow Gemini. I will dearly miss you, you are the best.”

Keith also shared a picture of Charlie’s drum kit which included a sign saying “closed”.
