Seinfeld star Philip Baker Hall has passed away at age 90, ‘surrounded by loved ones,’ according to his friend and writer Sam Farmer.

The Boogie Nights actor’s death on Saturday evening was announced by the sportswriter over Twitter the following day. 

‘My neighbor, friend, and one of the wisest, most talented and kindest people I’ve ever met, Philip Baker Hall, died peacefully last night,’ Farmer shared on the microblogging site.

The NFL columnist continued: ‘He was surrounded by loved ones. The world has an empty space in it.’ 

A cause of death was not announced, but he suffered from emphysema, a  lung condition that causes shortness of breath, and was seen using a  portable oxygen at the premiere of his film The Last Word back in 2017.

Hall had an acting career spanning more than four decades and appeared in more than 200 guest roles on television.

Hall notably starred in the 1996 crime thriller Hard Eight, alongside John C. Reilly, Samuel L. Jackson and Gwyneth Paltrow as prostitute Clementine. 

Hall then had roles in Anderson’s later films Boogie Nights and Magnolia.

The Ohio native’s other film credits include Midnight Run, The Truman Show, Bruce Almighty and Dogville.

Hall also portrayed Joe Bookman on two episodes of Seinfeld back in 1991.

Speaking of the role in 2012, he said it was what he became most known for despite an expansive filmography. 

‘People will say forever, at the supermarket or wherever, it doesn’t matter where, ‘Oh, you’re Bookman, right? I really loved that Bookman,’ he told The A.V. Club. ‘Now, I know you’ve done a lot of other things, but I loved that Bookman character.’
