Charlotte Casiraghi—the granddaughter of Grace Kelly, daughter of Monaco’s Princess Caroline, accomplished equestrian, and founder of a philosophical association in her hometown—has had a close relationship with Chanel since she was in utero. “It’s almost as if I was born with Chanel,” Casiraghi says in a new video, recalling photographs of her mother wearing the late Karl Lagerfeld’s designs while she was pregnant with her. As a teenager, Lagerfeld helped ignite Casiraghi’s passion for poetry and literature, and photographed her for his book The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld in 2012. Of course, Casiraghi wore Chanel Haute Couture at her wedding.

On January 1st, the royal and the storied French house will make things official when Casiraghi joins the ranks of Kristen Stewart, Lily Rose Depp, Penélope Cruz, and Keira Knightly as a brand ambassador and spokesperson. In addition to starring in an upcoming Spring-Summer 2021 Ready-to-Wear campaign shot by Inez and Vinoodh at Lagerfeld’s former residence overlooking Monaco, Casiraghi will take on a more conceptual role suited to her expertise and interests.

Together with artistic director Virginie Viard, Casiraghi will host a series of events called Les Rendezvous littéraires rue Cambon (Literary rendezvous at rue Cambon) throughout 2021, with the aim of bringing together female writers and actresses to discuss works that have made an impact on them. Authors who played an important role in the women’s liberation movement are to be a particular focus. Casiraghi says she came up with the idea “spontaneously,” inspired by the literary salons that Gabrielle Chanel once hosted in her own home. Each event will be available on Chanel’s website and social media channels.

“My contribution is being not just a muse, but someone who transmits,” Casiraghi says. “Today’s fashion has this strength of expression, and it can move culture forward.” The first Casiraghi-led event will take place on January 26th at Chanel’s Paris HQ on Rue Cambon.
