I got hair like Kate Middleton – ‘Supernatural’ hair extensions to look like the Duchess

Kate Middleton’s hair looks so wavy and luscious, and Olia Cutz, the founder of THE EXTENSIONIST, a salon based in Clapham in South London, has created ULTRA BOND Hair Extensions for clients to look just like the Duchess of Cambridge. The bonds are tiny and invisible so you cannot see them, and I was able to try out the extensions and be the first to review them before they launch in the UK. According to Olia, the bonds are applied meticulously, strand by strand, using a bespoke micro extension fusion machine specifically designed for the application of the tiny bonds.  The ULTRA BONDS which I got are so lightweight and never pull on my natural hair, especially as my natural hair is quite fine.

Olia applied ULTRA BONDS to the sides of my hair as well as extension tapes at the back, in order to create the Kate Middleton effect and produce luscious hair.

After applying the extensions, my hair was curled to the same wavy hairstyle which the Duchess of Cambridge regularly sports, and I left the salon feeling like a million dollars.

The colour of the hair extensions perfectly matched my natural hair colour which was incredible, and the bonds themselves are invisible so my hair looks just like the Duchess of Cambridge’s beautiful waves.

I spoke exclusively to the founder of THE EXTENSIONIST, Olia Cutz, who spoke more in-depth about the Kate Middleton-style extensions and why it is important to take care of your hair.

Olia said: “Kate Middleton’s hair looks supernatural. For many years we have been wondering whether she has extensions or does not have extensions.

“If Kate would go for hair extensions, it would be probably something more invisible. That’s why for you we have chosen the small Russian tapes because they are undetectable, and for the sides, ULTRA BONDS, because when you put your hair up, even when the wind blows, you can’t see them.

“When you have hair extensions like Kate Middleton, the texture of the hair should match your natural hair and the colour. So for you, we have branded two to three different shades to match your hair perfectly because you just had highlights done.

“Now, with extensions these days, the quality of the hair can be so good that you can style the hair the same way as your natural hair, and you know it’s going to be absolutely natural looking. That’s why it’s so important to come to the professional salon – a salon that purely does extensions because there are so many people here in London that do extensions but they’re not as professional.

“It’s so important to have it done at a professional place, have a consultation, choose the hair that matches your natural hair, and then you’re going to get great results. Sometimes if you choose the wrong method or if the application is wrong it can be so noticeable,” Olia explained.

“If Kate Middleton ever had extensions it will probably be tapings mixed with ULTRA BONDS because tapes do give you volume but they do not separate into strands and that way they look so full and nice.

“Kate was spotted recently with short hair and then literally a week later she had super long hair, so we were all questioning, was it just clip-ins or was it permanent hair? I would say maybe her hairdresser did use permanent extensions because clip-ins might pull out, something might show, but permanent well-done extensions would never be exposed to anyone, especially if she’s going out going to important meetings.

“What’s good about extensions is that when you do curl them, the curls actually hold better than on natural hair. It holds the shape so much better and obviously, it gives every client so much more confidence, and once you have a little bit of a boost you just feel like a million dollars.

“Even the Royal Family can get extensions and feel slightly better and more confident, especially when Kate goes out on royal events!” she said

Olia offered me some Kerastase shampoo and some Balmain thermal protection spray in order to protect the hair extensions from being damaged.

Olia continued: “It’s really important to take care of your extensions. A good set of extensions would last be for one year plus, but you will need to care for them. That means using good quality shampoo, conditioner, and heat protection spray, because when you have long hair obviously you want to use all the tools that you have at home, whether it be your curlers or your straighteners, and your lovely hair needs a lot of care and protection.

“It’s important not to lose cheap hair care products because then your extensions will last longer. We’re really proud that every set of extensions that will fit into our clients’ hair can be reduced for a full five times, which is great because, in some places that use cheaper hair and offer cheaper prices, the hair can only be used once.

“If you wash it a couple of times, if the hair extensions are heavily processed, even the professional shampoo is not going to help. If you wash it a couple of times it freezes up like Barbie hair and you can’t even put the brush through it.

“That’s why we love to use good quality hair, which is sourced directly from Russia and Brazil, making sure it’s not heavily chemically processed but is easy for all clients to use the hair on a daily basis. The products we have given to you are going to help you to just look after your hair every day and make sure they’re going to last for the next time.

“For example, when you’re going to come for reapplication I’m sure your hair is going to look great, the only downside probably will be you need to come back for reapplication every three months. The hair is reusable but still, your natural hair is growing and the extensions will be growing down a little bit, so every two, three months you will need to come back for re-application, and they will last for another 10 to 12 weeks which is a bonus,” Olia explained.

“For example, if a person is investing a lot of money for the first set of extensions, when they come for maintenance help, obviously it’ll be for much less, so it’s like an investment. It’s good to know that you don’t have to buy a new set of extensions every three months otherwise it will be a little bit more difficult for some people to afford.”
