I'm a hairdresser and we can tell you're pregnant before you can – here are the telltale signs | The Sun

A HAIRDRESSER has taken to TikTok to reveal how they can tell you’re pregnant before you can – and they have a good idea of your baby’s gender too.

Samantha Penn, known online as @hairapyfamily, regularly shares haircare tips with her 204,000 followers.

In a new video, the hairstylist and mum-of-four shares that it’s the texture and thickness which give it away.

She said: “Yes, hairdressers can tell when you’re pregnant and I’ll tell you how.

“Now this is a little difficult if I’ve never met you before.

“The only thing if I’ve never done your hair before I can see are pregnancy bands, and I typically don’t ask about that because I don’t know the client.

“But if you’re my client, the way I can tell if you’re pregnant – your hair will either not be as curly if it’s normally curly.

“It won’t be as thick or thicker, so I’ll have a texture change.

“Also they’ll be little new growth hairs randomly, so it means I can tell there’s a hormonal change going on.”

She also explained how she can guess the gender of your baby from how greasy your hair is.

“Okay, now people ask about genders.

“I can’t 100 per cent say this, but I can say with my clients, I’ve always been able to tell the gender based on your hair.

“And what it is they say girls take away your beauty and boys give you beauty.

“So when you’re having a boy, I feel like the hair is fuller, ticker and it feels like a good texture.

“When you’re having a girl, I feel like it’s so oily and wet, and almost feels like you have an increase of oestrogen.

“So that’s how we can tell you’re pregnant, over its texture changes and thickness, or less thick.

“When it comes to colour, someone commented about how the colour changes, that does happen.

“So if I knew ahead of time you’re pregnant, I would make the colour not as dark, because sometimes it takes really, really dark, or I’d bring up the developer on my blondness.

“I also had a perm not take one time because of the pregnancy.”

Fans loved Samatha’s explanation, with the video gaining more than 2,700 likes and 44,000 views.

In the comments, the hairstylist’s followers shared their reactions, with one writing: “What… the gender too…”

Another said: “This makes so much sense, I had such good hair with my son, got pregnant with my daughter and my hair has never been worse. Thinning, dry & brittle.”
