Turn that runway frown upside down!
Catwalk veteran Maye Musk is tired of all the long faces.
“I would like to see models being a little pleasant and relatable and having fun,” the 71-year-old Canadian-South African cover girl tells The Post from her front-row perch at the Sally LaPointe show during New York Fashion Week. “I don’t see it at all.”
Then again, the whole job description has changed dramatically.
“I’ve done runway since I was 15,” says the silver-haired supe. “Then, it was walking nicely, smiling at people and doing lovely turns. We did our own hair and makeup and brought our own shoes, jewelry, accessories and hairpieces. You would also do six outfits in the show and be able to change in 30 seconds. That was your main qualification,” she says.
“Now when I do runway shows, I have to be able to walk very fast with a serious face — or confident, as they say — and you only have one outfit. You don’t have to think of choreography. It’s easier now.”
There are benefits to her early speed training. “I’m always early because I can get ready so quickly,” says Musk. “Although now, there’s a whole glam team. I have to have hair and makeup done. I need the contouring!”
Musk is looking forward to the birth of her newest grandchild — the seventh for her son Elon. Elon’s girlfriend, Canadian singer Grimes (born Claire Boucher), revealed her pregnancy on Instagram on Jan. 8.
“I’m very excited, very excited,” said Grandma Musk. “I’ve got 11 grandkids, and the more the merrier. They all get along well.”
That’s definitely something to smile about.
