However, there was one other royal in the past who used to wear jewellery as a mark of love and devotion to her children, and that was Princess Diana. As a wedding gift, Prince Charles gave Princess Diana a simple gold bracelet to which he would add a new charm at each wedding anniversary. Princess Diana’s charms included a pair of ballet shoes, due to her love of ballet, and a golden St Paul’s Cathedral, which was the location of their marriage ceremony.

However, Diana later added two charms with the initials W and H, to commemorate the birth of her sons, William and Harry.

Similarly, Meghan Markle’s £1,300 constellation necklaces are a tribute to Archie and baby Lilibet.

The Duchess of Sussex celebrated her 40th birthday on August 4 this year, and in celebration, shared a video in which she showed off a special astrology-inspired tribute to her two children Archie and Lilibet.

The video, which was shot in Meghan’s Californian home, featured the star having a zoom call with actress Melissa McCarthy and wearing a pair of constellation necklaces.

Dressed in the most sumptuous loungewear, consisting of a simple cream vest and knitted joggers with a matching cardigan, the mother-of-two positively glowed on camera.

With her glossy hair tied back and the most immaculate makeup, the Duchess dazzled as she introduced her new charitable plan.

The star rocked two Constellation necklaces layered up: Taurus to represent Archie, whose birthday is May 6, and Gemini for little Lilibet who was born on June 4, 2021.

The necklace, which has also been featured on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, is from Logan Hollowell, an LA-based jewellery designer.

Similarly, in her first TV interview since stepping down as a member of the Royal Family on Good Morning America in 2020, Meghan wore two zodiac sign necklaces from the sustainable Canadian jewellery brand, Suetables.

She wore a £58 Shirley horoscope necklace with Harry’s Virgo sign and a £117 Vanessa Coin zodiac necklace with the Taurus charm, in honour of Archie’s May 6 birthday.

At the 2019 US Open, Markle paid tribute to her family again when she wore a necklace from the brand Mini Mini Jewels that featured two dog tags with the initial’s ‘H’ for Harry and ‘A’ for Archie.

The Duchess of Sussex also wore an “A” necklace as she cheered on Serena Williams at the Wimbledon tennis championships in 2019.

As Princess Diana is Meghan’s late mother-in-law, Meghan may be taking a leaf out of her book when it comes to jewellery choices.

Royal fans are divided over Meghan taking inspiration from Diana’s fashion.

In a recent post in a royalist Facebook group, the Duchess of Sussex was branded ‘creepy’ as images compared her style to her husband’s mother, the Princess of Wales.

One commenter said: “Isn’t it weird to dress like his mother?”

“Disturbing! Clearly unbalanced. Not surprising Harry wanted to distance her from his beloved family,” another wrote.

However, some people came to Meghan’s defence, saying: “You can find multiple pictures of Kate in similar outfits to Diana too, it does not mean they are trying to be like her.”

Another added: “There’s nothing wrong in admiring someone’s sense of style, it happens every day all over the world.”

“She looks beautiful and is obviously making an effort. I’m sure Princess Diana would accept her and just want Harry to be happy,” another wrote.
