People are only just realizing there’s a part of your washing machine you need to remove & clean – or it will cost you | The Sun

WASHING machines are great for taking the elbow grease out of doing your laundry, but that doesn't mean you can be completely hands off.

A TikTok video has shown users the regular cleaning task required when it comes to washing your clothes.

The TikTok user behind Home Expert revealed the hidden part of your washing machine that needs regular cleaning.

"Guys go check this part of your washing machine, you will be surprised at how gross this filter is," the cleaning experts advised.

While the video doesn't specify exactly which machines have this hidden filter, it may be worth a check to see if your washer has one.

Reaching inside the drum part of the machine, the TikTok user lifts a panel which reveals a dirty filter.

The camera zooms in on the filter to show a close up off the layers of gunk that have formed.

The TikToker removes the moldy filter and removes as much gunk as possible by hand.

Then, the cleaning pro tackled the filter using The Pink Stuff, available for just $6 on Amazon, as well as at Home Depot and Walmart.

After some scrubbing, the layers of dirt can be easily removed.
