WE'VE spent the entire year yearning for the days of suntan lotion and shorts, but now that the heatwave has hit, we're all desperately trying to cool down.

In the midst of a UK heatwave, we're all desperately trying to cool down enough to get a good night's sleep and for some, kicking off the duvet just isn't good enough.

If you need a little something extra to help you stay cool in the heat, we have a great tip for you.

When using a fan to help you chill out, set it to anti-clockwise and you will feel far cooler.

Doesn't sound like it would make a difference does it? But in fact it does.

Fan experts Delmar Fans explained that the anti-clockwise blade rotation pushes the cool air down to the floor.

Before you try and sleep, place a fan behind the tin so it wafts cool air in your direction during the night.

Alternatively, fill a hot water bottle with icy water and place it over your body's "cooling points" – i.e. your elbows, ankles, knees and wrists.

Another option is to run your wrists under cold water after you've finished brushing your teeth so you're nice and cool when you get into bed
