How to make a simple four-ingredient apple pie in a slow cooker

With the weather getting colder, sometimes you just want a comforting meal.

And a hearty dessert doesn’t have to take a lot of effort.

Recently, a slow cooker apple pie recipe has been popular on Facebook because it involves just throwing four things in and leaving it to cook.

Although it’s called ‘Nana’s apple pie’, it has a cake top rather than a traditional pastry one so don’t expect it to crisp up.

It’s all made from stuff you can easily keep in the cupboard and then whip it up any time you’re in the mood for a nice pudding.

To make the recipe, you need two tins of sliced apples, tinned caramel and cake mix (any one will do but be aware of the extra ingredients you need to add to it).

You need to make the cake batter up according to instructions then simply pour in the apples, followed by the caramel, and then the cake on top.

It cooks slowly, keeping everything moist. Once it’s finished, spoon it into bowls and serve with ice cream or custard.

  •  Oil
  • 2 cans of sliced apples 
  • 1 cup of caramel topping 
  • 2x 340g packets of cake batter made as per packet instructions
