IKEA has recalled a sweet treat because a piece of metal has been found in it. This makes it unsafe for customers to consume. IKEA and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) outlined what affected shoppers should do if they have bought it.

The FSA made a statement explaining the recent food recall.

It stated: “Almondy AB is recalling Almondy Almond cake with Daim because a metal piece has been found in the product which makes it unsafe to eat. This product is sold in IKEA stores.”

The FSA reassured customers that IKEA was taking action to ensure the safety of customers.

It stated: “Almondy AB is recalling the above product from customers. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product.”

The notice explained that because a piece of metal was found in a cake, IKEA would be recalling the product from the same batch code.

It continued: “Almondy asks customers who have purchased Almondy Almond cake with Daim 400g with the best before date November 18, 2023, to not eat it and return the product to an IKEA store for a full refund.”

Proof of purchase will not be required. Customers can contact Almondy at www.almondy.com for further information.

Margareta Johannesson, Quality Director at Almondy, issued a statement.

It read: “At Almondy the quality and safety of our products is our number one priority.

“We take the incident very seriously and as a precautionary measure we are therefore recalling products purchased at IKEA stores, with the batch code stated above.

“We have identified what measures to take to prevent this from happening again.”

The FSA echoed this advice: “If you have bought the above product do not eat it.

“Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund, (no receipt is required), or contact Almondy at www.almondy.com.”

While food recalls rarely happen, they must be taken seriously when they do.

The FSA explained: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).

“The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.

“In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.”
