Sainsbury’s recalls food product due to serious Salmonella fear

Food recalls are issued when there is a health and safety problem with a product. When this happens, a company or supermarket advises customers who have already bought the product to return it to their nearest store.

Sainsbury’s has updated its list of product recalls on its website.

It has informed customers that a company is recalling one of its products that was available at its stores.

Now, Sainsbury’s is withdrawing the product from its shops and advising customers to return it to their local store.

The supermarket said: “Osem UK Ltd has informed us that they are voluntarily recalling all pots of YARDEN TAHINA, Salad of Sesame Paste with Garlic and Parsley 250g as the product may contain Salmonella.

“We are asking customers who have purchased the above product not to eat it and to return it to their nearest Sainsbury’s store, where they will receive a full refund.

“For any concerns or queries, or if you are unable to return the product to store, then please visit our website Sainsburys.co.uk/help or contact our Careline on 0800 028 8303.

“No other Osem UK Ltd products have been affected by this issue. Osem UK Ltd would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) also informed customers of the food recall. It published a risk statement, saying: “The possible presence of Salmonella in the product listed above.

“Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.”

The product comes in a tub 250g in size and has a best before date of January 1, 2023. Its batch number is: 2306196504.

Osem UK Ltd wrote in its action statement: “Only this batch is affected by the recall and we would like to assure you that no other products are affected.

“Any consumers who have purchased Tahina should look on the side of the lid at the batch code and the expiry date to see if they are from the affected batch.

“If you have a pot from the affected batch, please do not consume it, dispose of the content immediately and contact our Consumer Support on +44 (0)1268410707 or email: [email protected] to discuss a full refund.

“Anyone who has eaten the recalled product and has any of the following symptoms: diarrhoea, fever and stomach cramps, should seek medical advice.

“UK Ltd takes the safety and quality of its products very seriously and would like to apologise for this inconvenience.”

The FSA published its advice for customers too. It said: “If you bought the above product, do not eat it.

“Instead, dispose of the content immediately and contact Osem UK Consumer Support on 01268410707 or email: [email protected] for a full refund.”

The organisation went on to explain what food recalls are in general. It added: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).

“The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.

“In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.”
