We’re a nation of shepherd’s pie munchers, so any easy ways to make and eat this dish will always be welcomed.
One mum has shared a clever trick for making individual shepherd’s pies and for keeping them compact, meaning you can leave them in the fridge and bung them in the oven or air fryer whenever you fancy.
Instead of using one oven dish to put the pie together, the Australian home cook used taco cases to make individual ‘shepherd pie boats’.
The woman made her mince and vegetable filling the night before and left it in the fridge.
She used store-bought roasted garlic mash to keep costs and effort down.
The next day, all she had to do was scoop the mince into the taco shells, add some mashed potato and sprinkle with cheese.
The mum then simply left it in the air fryer until the cheese started to brown.
And voila – your individual pie. Delicious.
- Beef mince
- Tomato paste
- Garlic powder
- Grated cheese
- Taco boats
- Pre-made mashed potato
You will also need potatoes and cheese for the topping, and taco cases to assemble it all.
- To make the meat sauce, brown the mince then add onion, garlic powder, vegetables and tomato paste. Stew for as long as possible, and leave overnight if you want.
- When you’re ready to eat, get a taco boat and fill in with sauce, add mashed potato on top, sprinkle with cheese.
- Put in an air fryer on 180C for between 7-10 minutes.
Once you make a batch of the meat stew, the mum wrote it only takes about ten minutes to put all the different elements together.
She wrote on Facebook: ‘I used the pre-done mash you can get at Woollies.
‘I also cooked the mince and vegetables the night before when I had more time so tonight all we had to do was throw it together and air fry.’
Other people can’t wait to try it out. One mum wrote: ‘Sounds delicious, I might have to try them.
‘Thank you for sharing , what a great idea and good guide on how to make them,’ said another.
One person has tried them before and said it was a game changer.
‘They are amazing and now we won’t have cottage or shepherds pie any other way. It’s just a perfect combination.’
