Woman shares how she bought a weekly food shop for two for just £16

A woman has shared the meal plan and shopping list that saw her spend just £16 on a weekly food shop for her and her partner.

She posted her Asda receipt and that week’s menu to a Facebook group called Feed Yourself for £1 a Day.

She set out to try a challenge to feed her family for under £20, but her spending results were even better than that, as she didn’t even use everything she bought in one week.

The list of items she bought, of which cheese for £2.11 was the most expensive, were enough for three meals a day for two people.

According to her menu for that week, the list of meals included cheesy potato skins, sausage and mash, chicken and rice salad and cottage pie.

She wrote in the group: ‘This was a few years ago but we did the feed your family for £20 per week and this is what we bought and cooked for 3 meals per day for 2 of us.

‘We ended the week with food leftover so I would say the cost for the whole week was more like £16.

‘The real key was that we had to plan in advance to make sure that the fresh stuff was at its best.’

People in the group were fans of the post, with one writing: ‘It’s so lovely to see people genuinely trying to help others.’

Another commented: ‘Thank you for posting, it may have really helped someone.
