1 in 3 women over 45 take at least one all-girl holiday a year

Rise of the all-girl break: One in three women over 45 in a relationship take at least one holiday a year with female friends leaving their partner at home

  •  Women over 45 are more likely to take holidays with their friends than partners
  •  50% of women want to get away for a chance at some quality time with friends
  • The study also found that we’re more likely to head abroad than holiday at home
  • Jennifer Aniston has been spotted enjoying a girls only holiday very recently

Friendship comes first for an increasing number of women opting for all-girl breaks, rather than romantic holidays with their partners

Over a third of all women over the age of 45 have said they’d be more likely to take an all-girls break than a romantic getaway with a partner, if given the option.

Shorter girlfriend-getaways, for a weekend or three to four days are also on the rise with just under a fifth of women over 45, saying they take two or more a year.

The top reason for over half of all women is the chance to get in some quality time with missed friends.

Other reasons included getting the chance to take part in something their partners had no real interest in or getting in some solid ‘me’-time.

More than just catching up, research from Harvard University has suggested these breaks away are essential to our health.

More than a third of women aged over 45 have been found more likely to choose a holiday wth their friends over taking a holiday with a partner

Harvard researchers said: ‘social connections like these not only give us pleasure, they also influence our long-term health in ways every bit as powerful as adequate sleep, a good diet and not smoking.’

Celebrities such as Friends stars Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, model Kate Moss and best pal Sadie Frost, have helped drive the trend with glamorous snaps from their fun-filled girl-friend only trips regularly posted on social media.

Suzi Burns of JD Williams said: ‘We were not surprised to find our study showed the friendship of other women is valued so highly.’

It’s official, keeping up with your friends on those much needed weekend getaways is as essential for your health as a good sleep and diet

‘Most friendships are built up over many years and it isn’t always easy to find time in our everyday lives to give close friends the attention they deserve. ‘

‘Women are now more independent and have the money and the confidence to organise their own holidays with their own friends, rather than just with their husband’s or partners.’

‘Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, were on holiday together to celebrate Jennifer’s 50th birthday in February this year and then again to mark Courteney’s 55th birthday in June.’

‘Their relationship is a great example of an enduring friendship that has lasted through career highs and lows, marriages and divorces.’
