“He had been accepted in Australia for four years and had a visa. He was over the moon and had gained sponsorship”, his dad James told an inquest into his death on Friday, May 24.

The coroner said there was a small cut near his eye, which is believed to have come from falling into the hotel pool.

She added that there was no sign of injury, but found there to be bruising around his foot.

The potential involvement of other people in his death was ruled out by the coroner who said that tests showed he had taken no illicit substances at the time of his death.

A post-mortem exam was carried out after Mr Blakeledge’s embalmed body was brought back to the UK.

The coroner found some traces of alcohol but added that this was most likely due to the embalming process.
