Parents can make Christmas a bit more magical for children thanks to a clever trick by McDonald's which will show one of Santa's reindeer in your own living room.

In the video above, made with McDonald's Reindeer Ready website, a reindeer with a harness and cute ringing bells is animated to bend down and munch on a plate of carrots.

If you get your kids to put down their own plate of treats, you can help convince them Santa has paid a visit in the middle of the night.

The McDonald's Reindeer Ready website has been a huge hit in previous years and it works in any location, as shown in the cute clip by Mirror Online.

It's incredibly simple to do but the site is often overloaded in the final hours of Christmas Eve with the number of people trying to access it, so it's probably better to prepare beforehand.

All you need to do is visit the website here on your phone or tablet, choose "Reindeer Ready Live" and click "Get started".

It will then access your camera to take a picture of where you would like the reindeer to appear, before editing in the magical animal to take a bite from a plate of crunchy carrots as the bells on its collar jingle away, as seen in the video above.

Getting the camera angle right to match where your child left the snacks may take a couple of goes.

Remember, the website's clever tool adds in its own plate of carrots so be sure to move yours out of the shot before you get started.

You can even change the side the reindeer enters from to match how they would have entered the house, and once you've nailed the perfect shot, you can download the video to your phone to stun the kids on Christmas morning.
