Is Primark open in lockdown?

Primark: TikTok user shares discount ‘secrets’

The lockdown was brought in to England on Monday as the Prime Minister announced the new measures in a televised address from Downing Street. This lockdown will see Britain return to similar conditions in the first lockdown implemented in March at the beginning of the pandemic. Government officials say the new restrictions are crucial for the UK, as the death toll is climbing and hospital admissions are at their highest since the peak of the pandemic in April.

Is Primark open in lockdown?

As part of the new lockdown measures, the Government has ordered the closure of all non-essential shops.

So aside from supermarkets and pharmacies, there’s not much choice for Brits who want to browse the shops.

Primark isn’t deemed an essential shop as it specialises in clothing and homeware, meaning it is closed to the public for the foreseeable future.

Primark, in a statement, said its “top priority” continues to be the health and safety of their workers and customers.

The statement reads: “All of our thoughts are currently focussed on the Covid-19 situation as it develops, and we want to reassure you that the health and wellbeing of our colleague and customers is our top priority.

“We have been doing everything we can to ensure our teams are supported, as well as maintaining the highest standards of hygiene across our business.

“We are following advice from the World Health Organisation (WHO) as well as local and national Government and health authorities and have closed our stores in the UK until further notice.

“We’re committed to supporting our colleagues in these affected stores.

“Primark has overcome many challenges over the past 50 years, and we pride ourselves on our agility and our ability to adapt.

“We thank all our employees, customers, suppliers and partners for their continued support.”

Primark says it will be regularly updating its store pages and social media channels throughout the lockdown, so keep an eye out for when stores will reopen.

The statement adds: “We love nothing more than welcoming you into your local Primark store and we will miss seeing you while our stores are closed.

“Please keep in touch, we would love to hear from you via our social channels. We hope to share some kindness and joy with you during this uncertain time.

“In the meantime, we’d like to extend our best wishes and thoughts to you and your loved ones all during this difficult time.”

Unfortunately for Primark enthusiasts, the shop doesn’t offer online shopping or click and collect options.

Primark chiefs have previously spoken out about online shopping, saying a website wouldn’t work for the chain’s business model.

Finance Chief for Primark, John Bason said: “Look at a £2 T-shirt. Everyone thinks it’s clickety-click but one third of clothes get returned.

“That means someone has to pick it up, someone has to deliver it, someone in the store has to take it back, refold it. It just doesn’t work at the lower price point.”

Even though there’s not an official online Primark retailer, you could still pick up some essentials on other websites stocking the clothes.

One of the main places you can expect to find Primark goods on the internet is eBay, which is currently stocking both the store’s clothes and perfumes.
