Kim Kardashian Is Getting Seriously Mom Shamed Over Her New Picture Of Baby Psalm

  • People are mom shaming Kim Kardashian for her crib choice for baby Psalm.
  • In a Twitter and now-removed Instagram photo, Kim shows Psalm in a baby crib, covered in blankets and surrounded by bumpers.
  • Babies should be placed on their backs on a firm sleep surface void of any blankets, pillows, or bumpers to avoid SIDS, per the American Academy of Pediatrics

Kim Kardashian welcomed her fourth child, a boy she and her husband Kanye West named Psalm, earlier this month, and the couple officially showed their newborn to the world via Twitter.

The photo, which is the only one of the baby Kim has shared so far, is a screenshot of a text from Kanye. “Beautiful Mother’s Day with the arrival of our fourth child. We our blessed beyond measure,” Kanye sweetly wrote in the text.

The photo that Kanye sent along with it shows little Psalm in a white crib, looking all kinds of adorable. But fans pointed out that the way Psalm is in the crib doesn’t meet safe sleep standards. The baby is covered in blankets and surrounded by bumpers—two thing that aren’t recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

“Please please please go pay an overpriced ‘sleep consultant’ to get all that unnecessary padding, bumpers, and blankets out of your child’s crib so they are not at risk for SIDS.I’ve tried and failed to resuscitate too many children that have died this way,” one commenter, who identified themselves as an ER doctor wrote.

Another responded, “1. Congrats! 2. Anyone else freaking out about all the blankets & bumpers?! American Academy of Pediatrics recommends keeping the crib free of blankets & pillows until baby is 12 months old, as these can create a suffocation hazard. @kanyewest Just looking out for a fellow dad,”

Turns out, the commenters are right: The AAP recommends that babies be placed on their back on a “firm sleep surface” like a crib or bassinet with a tight-fitting sheet, to prevent sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), accidental suffocation, and strangulation. “Avoid use of soft bedding, including crib bumpers, blankets, pillows, and soft toys. The crib should be bare,” the AAP says.

But Kim and Kanye aren’t the only parents who have gotten heat recently. Jessica Simpson was also mom shamed after sharing a photo of her baby daughter Birdie asleep on her stomach. (Her mom Tina later clarified that they simply placed Birdie like that for the photo and watched over her the whole time.)

Kim hasn’t responded to the criticism, but she did remove the photo of Psalm that she shared on Instagram.
