Most popular baby names of 2020 revealed – and Archie is on the rise

The most popular baby names of 2020 list has been released, and there's no doubt royal monikers are having a moment.

The research was revealed by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) delving in to the most popular names for pandemic babies.

A list like this is released by the ONS each year, detailing the top 100 baby names in England and Wales.

And it seems a lot of boys' names have been inspired by the royals, with Archie moving up the ranks.

The top name for boys over all remains unchanged, with Oliver coming up trumps yet again.

Oliver has held top spot since 2013, and Olivia has held the top girls' spot for the past five years.

Coming in to the top 10 boys' names for the first time, at number nine, is Archie, also the moniker of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son.

George is also very popular, the moniker of Prince William and Kate Middleton's eldest son, with the name sitting in second place on the newly released list.

Prince George has been a popular name and it has had a high position the list since George was born in 2013.

Yet another royal moniker to exist in the top ten is Harry.

Harry has been in the top 10 list for more than 20 years and, this year, sits in eighth position.

A spokesman for ONS said: "Archie jumped into the top 10 boys’ names for the first time, driven by younger mothers as well as the obvious Royal link. While on the girls’ side Ivy rose to sixth place.

"'Popular culture continues to provide inspiration for baby names, whether it’s characters in our favourite show or trending celebrities.
