Mum-of-22 Sue Radford shares ‘pride’ as son Luke, 20, comes out as bisexual

Members of Britain’s biggest family were left in tears this week after one of the children, Luke, came out as bisexual.

The heartwarming moment was shown on the latest episode of the Radford’s Channel 5 show, 22 Kids and Counting, where the 20-year-old opened up to his family.

Parents, Sue and Noel, were left feeling “emotional” after Luke revealed his sexuality.

But, he admitted that it wasn’t an easy thing to do as he’d been hiding his true feelings for six long years.

Speaking on the show, he said: “When I was around 14 was when I pretty much knew and from there I’ve always wanted to say it but there’s always been something said or something happened where my confidence got bashed.

“I can’t describe how taxing it is on you to hold it back for so long, it’s hard to tell my family because it’s their opinions I care for the most."

He continued: “It’s not fair for me to have to go through it, just live a lie, not be you, you have to pretend it’s not fair

“You have to come to terms with it yourself and make sure you’re comfortable with the worst of people’s opinions before you can freely tell people

“It’s been a mental game to try and get there – until now.

“A sit down chat with mum and dad? I don’t know how people can ever do that.”

“When you say something different or act different to the so-called norm you’re judged differently so when you as a person are different it becomes harder to have full control over yourself feelings.

“Some people love you differently, some people love you more and of course you have the people who just don’t care.”

And, Luke also chose to come out on social media and said: “At the age of 17 I really questioned who I was as an individual and at the age of 20 I feel I have come to terms with who I am.

“I’m bisexual, that’s me my core and part of me that makes me function the way I do.

“To all those who support us I can’t thank you enough and to all those who look down on us I wish your ignorance clears soon.”

But, his family welcomed the news with open arms.

Mum Sue, 46, commented: “I don’t think it makes any difference whether you’re straight, gay, bi anything – so long as you are happy that’s all that matters.

“I’ve known for a long time, I don’t even need you to tell me.

“The best thing about being in a big family is that you’ve got that support network, you’ve got so many people who will have your back.”

While Luke’s dad Noel, 50, added: “It’s a relief to us that you’re finally being what you want to be.”

Luke told them: “It’s the biggest relief I just feel free.”

And, fans of the family-of-24 expressed their pride and encouraged Luke.

One person commented: "Lovely young man, a credit to you all."

While another noted: "Well done Luke! My child told me they were non binary asexual and I didn’t care about what others think!

“They are MY child and so long as they are happy I am happy!"

Another viewer said: “Luke is a nice lad. He shouldn’t have to worry about what other people think about who he is or his sexuality. It’s nothing to be ashamed of."
