Tesco outline their latest shopping measures ahead of lockdown

Tesco, Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl have shared updates for those shopping in stores. They have explained what measures are in place to help protect customers.

With coronavirus restrictions being enforced across the UK, visiting the supermarkets is one of the only things shoppers are permitted to do.

Britons are allowed to head to their local supermarkets to do an essential grocery shop.

Supermarkets have shared updates on the shopping rules they continue to have in place.


The supermarket giant reassured shoppers by explaining shopping rules in a video posted on Twitter.

The clip explained: “Throughout these tough times we’re here for you.

“We’ve made it easier and safer to shop with us and our colleagues are here to ensure stores don’t become too busy and that social distancing guidelines are maintained.”

The retailer stated sanitisers will be available for cleaning trolleys and hands and colleagues would wear face coverings in stores.

Shoppers are also asked to wear face coverings and shoppers are protected with protective equipment at checkouts.

The retailer added its Click and Collect service has been expanded so customers do not need to spend more time in stores than necessary.

“Our Click and Collect service is now available in the majority of our stores,” the video continued.

“Just simply shop our full range online, choose your slot and park at the Click and Collect point at stores.”


Those visiting Tesco stores should continue to follow safety guidelines put in place.

Shoppers are asked to wear face coverings and maintain a safe distance.

A statement said: “We’re continuing to do all we can to ensure that everyone can get the food they need in a safe environment.

“Once in store, please keep to the social distancing markings. If there’s a queue outside and it’s raining, we’ll be handing out sanitised umbrellas in our larger stores.

“Hand sanitiser and cleaning stations are available around our stores, and we continue to have social distancing guidelines and signage in place. There are screens at the checkouts to keep everyone safe, and we encourage you to use contactless payment where you can.

“When you visit our stores, please follow the legal guidance on wearing a face covering.”


The discount supermarket asked customers not to buy more than they need and to keep a safe distance from others when in stores.

A recent statement from Aldi CEO Giles Hurley said: “As new government restrictions are introduced across the UK, I want to reassure you that all our stores are not fully stocked, we have good availability and there are regular deliveries, at least once a day.

“There is no need to buy more than normal so please shop considerately. We have protective screens at all 7,000 of our checkouts and all stores have sanitisation stations for customer use.

“There are clear signs and social distancing markers advising how to shop safely. We are encouraging payment by card or contactless when possible, with an increased contactless limit of £45.

“We continue to provide NHS, Blue Light and vulnerable customers priority access at specific times.”


Like Aldi and Tesco, Lidl has also introduced a traffic light system to manage the flow of shoppers.

Colleagues will also be stationed at the entrance of stores during peak times to ensure the stores do not become overcrowded.

A recent statement laid out what the retailer is doing to keep shoppers safe.

“We have dedicated cleaning stations at the entrances of all Lidl stores, for customers to sanitise their hands and trolley or basket,” it said.

“When in store, floor markings, signage and our audio system have been designed to remind shoppers to keep a safe social distance and adhere to protective measures.

“At checkouts, we have protective screens to ensure colleagues and customers remain safe whilst also encouraging contactless card payments for shopping under £45.”
