The trial scheme, available at 37 branches, will permit all flexible plastics such as carrier bags, bread packaging, toilet roll wrapping and pet food pouches to be deposited for an initial period of 12 weeks.
Marija Rompani, at the John Lewis Partnership, said: “If the UK is to become more efficient in its handling of difficult to recycle flexible plastics, we need to make it easier for the public.”
Tesco, Aldi and Sainsbury’s have already begun offering schemes for customers to deposit plastics at recycle points in stores.
