If you’ve been paying attention to Instagram lately, you’ll have noticed more and more of our favourite celebrities are ditching their usual hair colours in favour of the money-piece trend.
The nineties-inspired look, which made its comeback during the first lockdown, is a favourite amongst celebrities like Beyoncé, Dua Lipa and Kylie Jenner.
But what is the money-piece trend?
“This look involves making the bulk of hair darker, while keeping contrasting light sections of hair at the front,” explains Josh Wood, celebrity hairstylist.
“It’s almost like a split dye in the hairline. Some people will have a dark enough base shade already and will only need the front sections lifted, so it’s a hugely impactful look for such a small percentage of hair needing to be coloured,” he adds.
Now over a year since the UK’s first lockdown and the money-piece trend is still the hottest look for summer – expect to see lots of people sporting it at festivals this year.
Are you thinking about trying out the look yourself? Check out below which of your favourite celebrities have nailed those face-framing highlights and get inspiration…
The Irish beauty from season five of Love Island seems to have taken inspiration from Rogue from X-Men with her highly contrasted money-piece look. We almost didn’t recognise the stunning star, who sported waist-length jet black hair on the ITV2 dating show.
The former Little Mix star wowed fans when she opted for the money-piece hairstyle for her 30th birthday celebrations. She paired the look with lengthy extensions and a Gucci bandana.
She’s always switching up her hairstyle but we think her bleached-front phase was her most iconic one yet. The star often took her 90s looks one step further by braiding her front sections and wearing butterfly clips – throwback, right?
Sophie’s another celeb who tends to experiment with hair colour. She’s changed a lot since her Geordie Shore debut but we’re loving these chunky highlights on her.
We think it’s safe to say this major hair trend isn’t going anywhere soon…
