The Duchess of Sussex, 39, and Prince Andrew’s daughter, 30, maintain a close relationship despite Meghan and Prince Harry’s decision to step back as senior royals.

Meghan, who welcomed first child Archie Harrison, in May 2019, announced she was pregnant with her second child around the same time Princess Eugenie welcomed her first son August in February 2021 with husband Jack Brooksbank.

It’s far from the only time Eugenie has followed in the footsteps of the former-actress, with the duo believed to have bonded over their recent pregnancy joy.

Handwritten notes

Earlier this week, Princess Eugenie showed off her stunning handwriting as they sent  thankyou notes to royal fans who had congraulated her on the birth of her son.

In the notes, which were shared online by Twitter user History, Royals and Other Things, Eugenie penned: ‘Thank you so much for thinking of us and celebrating the birth of our beautiful boy, August.

‘Words can’t express the love and joy we feel. With out very best, Eugenie and Jack.’

Calligraphy could be a hobby the royal has learned from the Duchess of Sussex, who has long made a habit of handwriting notes to charities and organisations.

While jobbing as an actress Meghan also did work as freelance calligrapher, and wrote the invitations for celebrities Robin Thicke and Paula Patton’s wedding in 2005.

The royal bride also taught calligraphy, gift-wrapping and book-binding at the Paper Source store in Beverly Hills from 2004 to 2005.

Meghan wrote about her love of handwritten notes on her defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig saying: ‘I think handwritten notes are a lost art form.

‘When I booked my first [TV] pilot, my dad wrote me a letter that I still have. The idea of someone taking the time to put pen to paper is really special.’

In recent weeks, Meghan sent personalised notes on behalf of the UK-based Smart Works, which helps long-term unemployed and vulnerable women return to employment.

Photoshoots in the garden

Days after Prince Harry and Meghan announced their second pregnancy by sharing snaps from a garden photoshoot (left), Princess Eugenie echoed the choice with the first photographs of her son August in the grounds of Frogmore Cottage (right)

Since stepping back from royal duty and moving to California, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have taken to sharing photographs from shoots within the garden of their $14 million dollar home.

Earlier this month, Prince Harry and Meghan posed for snaps taken by Vogue photographer Misan Harriman to announce they were expecting their second child.

The black and white image shows the couple sat under a tree in Los Angeles, with Harry resting his hand on Meghan’s head as she lay in his lap cradling her bump.

Vogue photographer Harriman claimed that Meghan and Harry were ‘so comfortable chatting and being in the moment that they were not fully aware that he was shooting a piece of history’, in the words of British Vogue.

Days later, Princess Eugenie followed in their footsteps by sharing a snap taken in her garden along with husband Jack and their son August.

The royal revealed that the photograph was taken by their ‘wonderful midwife’, adding: ‘Thank you to the wonderful essential workers including our midwife who came to discharge our boy.’

Insta-friendly newborn snaps

Meanwhile both Princess Eugenie and Meghan have chosen to share Insta-friendly shots of their newborn children on social media (left, a snap taken by the Duchess of Sussex to mark Mother’s Day, and right, a photograph of August’s hand to announce his birth)

Weeks after giving birth, Meghan celebrated her first mother’s day in 2019, sharing  an adorable new photograph of son Archie lying in a garden of flowers on the SussexRoyal Instagram page.

The single image showed the newborn’s two tiny wriggling feet being gently held by the Duchess of Sussex’s hand, with forget-me-nots – Harry’s mother Princess Diana’s favourite flower – clearly visible in the background.

The photograph and accompanying caption celebrated Mother’s Day, which is being marked in the US and other countries around the world, and is believed to have been taken at the couple’s new home, Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

Less than two years later, Eugenie announced the birth of her son by sharing a black-and-white shot of his tiny hand being hand by her and husband Jack.

Last month, Eugenie echoed Meghan’s shot as she posted a photograph on her Instagram page of her one-month-old son August lying among a field of daffodils to celebrate her first mother’s day

And it’s not the only time the Queen’s granddaughter has echoed the former-actress when sharing snaps of her son.

Last month, she posted a photograph on her Instagram page of her one-month-old son August lying among a field of daffodils to celebrate her first mother’s day.

Like Archie, August’s face was not visible in the snap, with the newborn facing away from the camera.

Alongside the touching tributes, the Queen’s granddaughter penned: ‘I’m so excited to be August’s mum and as you can see I’m enjoying my first Mother’s Day.’

‘I’m also celebrating my beautiful Mumma with this picture of us from March 1990. You’ve taught me so much. ⁣Happy Mother’s Day to all.’

In the latest photograph Eugenie has shared of her son, the royal decked her one-month-old in an adorable grey jumper personalised with his name

Earlier this month, Princess Eugenie shared another glimpse of her adorable one-month-old son August as she thanked well-wishers following her birthday.

After celebrating her 31st birthday, the new mum took to Instagram to share two cute snaps of baby August, who was born on February 9 alongside a caption which read: ‘Thank you for the birthday love yesterday..I got the best present I could ask for!!’

In the first photograph, the Queen’s granddaughter can be seen beaming as she cradles August – who is wearing a personalised baby grow with his name emblazoned in blue on the back – while a smiling husband Jack Brooksbank, 34, gazes lovingly into her eyes.

The Duchess of Sussex often wears similar personalised pieces, and has regularly donned jewellery featuring the initials of her son Archie
