A singleton who was too self-conscious to date for 10 years has undergone a full-body makeover costing £14,000 in a bid to gain the confidence to take her clothes off.
Tyla Gibbons, 31, from Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, went under the knife on August 19 and had a tummy tuck, liposuction, breast lift and breast implants.
Feeling insecure as a teenager weighing 16st 10lb, she lost 7st by the time she was 21, but was left with excess skin on her stomach and uneven breasts.
But after struggling to afford the procedures for ten years, Tyla’s lack of body confidence kept her from finding a boyfriend.

Now, after spending £14,000 on the procedures, Tyla says she feels confident and ready to start dating again.
Tyla, who works as a dog trainer, explained: ‘I’m so happy with the results – I’d recommend it to everyone if it’s going to improve your confidence and I have absolutely no regrets.’
‘It was really painful and uncomfortable but it was worth it.’
‘I feel like a completely different person – I look in the mirror and I feel so much more confident without clothes on than I did even with clothes on!’

‘My insecurities used to massively effect relationships because I didn’t feel comfortable in my skin and I never wanted to be naked in front of them.’
‘I felt like I always had to wear a bra to cover up and if I couldn’t find a way to cover up, I’d find a way to push them away.’
‘I’ve been single for ten years and I blame that on my insecurities.’
‘I self-sabotaged because of it and it was never them that was the problem, it was me’.

Tyla added: ‘I had lost seven stone so I had been left with loose skin on my stomach and my breasts were asymmetrical.’
‘All I wanted was a flat stomach but I was left with an overhang of skin that made it look like I hadn’t even lost the weight.’
‘I had worked so hard to lose the weight so it was a kick in the teeth when I was left with that.’

HOW COMMON IS SWELLING AFTER A TUMMY TUCK?
Swelling is a common side effect of a tummy tuck, and patients can expect to have pain, bruising and swelling in varying extents.
It usually takes around six weeks to make a good recovery from the operation, but there can be longer-term swelling, which should be gone within a few months.
It’s important not to do too much too soon, as if patients are too active they can actually slow down healing and increase swelling around the wound.
The surgeon may ask patients to wear a support garment (a type of corset) for up to six weeks after surgery to help with recovery. This will ease pain and reduce any swelling.
‘I went from a size 20 to a size 12 so it was a big jump.’
‘All I wanted was to feel normal – having an overhang was abnormal to me and there were days when I was a complete mess because of the way I looked.’
‘When they first took the bandages off, it looked like I was going to fall apart.’
‘But, it was worth it in the long run’.
The procedures cost a total of £14,000, with Tyla’s parents paying two thirds of the hefty price tag.
She said: ‘I had quite a lot of work done – I went from a 38B to a 36D.’
‘I went to the NHS when I was 25 and spoke to them about the excess skin but the doctor looked at it and said it wasn’t that bad but I do feel I should have had some sort of funding from them.’
‘I saved the NHS money by losing weight by myself!
‘I was too embarrassed to talk to anyone about it but when I opened up to my parents, they agreed to help with the cost.’
‘It took me nine months to save up for my part.
‘Now, I’m just glad it’s done and I can feel confident and happy again’.
