A reviewer who sampled the worst TripAdvisor rated takeaway in Cambridge, was left gagging after finding 'pink chicken' and 'a spider in the rice'.
Chinese takeaway, Ocean Dragon, on Campkin Road in the city, has a one-star food hygiene rating and is considered one to avoid by many.
Out of the 49 reviews on TripAdvisor, 33 of them rated it as terrible, with one branding the food as "slimy and inedible".
Meanwhile inspectors slated it as needing 'major improvements' in February, after finding poor level of cleanliness and staff that lacked knowledge of food safety.
Despite this, Cambridgeshire Live reporter Nicola Gwyer decided to check out for herself and was horrified by what she found.
After dipping a fork into a meal of chicken balls, egg fried rice and prawn crackers, she found a spider in the rice, pink chicken and just a lot of grease.
Here's the full horror story…
Review of Ocean Dragon, Cambridge's worst takeaway
I went for a very standard order with chicken balls, egg fried rice, prawn crackers and the 'five-piece mini combo', which was made up of prawn toast and spring rolls.
A pretty safe bet – or so I thought.
When I arrived at the takeaway I could instantly smell stale grease in the air. It even smelt a bit like cigarettes in the shop.
I took the food back to the office ready to find out whether it would live up to it's – not so great – expectations.
First I pulled the chicken balls out of the bag and, while you get a really generous portion, they were unbelievably greasy.
I then stuck my fork into the rice and found something I did not want to see – a spider.
The spider was dead and buried in the rice. Needless to say, I decided to give the rice a miss.
Next, I went onto the chicken balls, I didn't have high hopes as one of the TripAdvisor comments read: "a catalogue of errors began as soon as my niece bit into one of the UNDERCOOKED Chicken balls. They were all pink and soggy."
I cut into the first one and sure enough, it was pink on the inside.
Cutting into each and every one of the many greasy chicken balls, I found that all of them were at least a little bit pink – some worse than others.
Then onto the five-piece mini combo, which was a selection of prawn toast and spring rolls.
At this point, I was so put off by the spider in the rice and the pink chicken that I couldn't stand the thought of having to eat anything from Ocean Dragon.
As the spring rolls were vegetarian I tried to assure myself it would all be fine – how wrong can you really go with a few vegetables?
Not quite as scarring as the spider or pink chicken, but still wholly disappointing, the spring rolls weren't as well-filled as I'd have liked.
Thin and greasy, they had almost no filling in them at all and generally just looked very unappetising.
My experience of Ocean Dragon food up to this point did not fill me with the hope that these appetisers would be any better.
And although there didn't seem to be anything else obviously wrong with the prawn toast either, other than being very greasy, I decided to give the whole box of appetisers a miss, too.
I also decided to avoid the prawn crackers after the terrible experience I had.
In total, I spent £16.90 on the meal and ate none of it.
After finding what looked like undercooked chicken and a spider in my rice, I was totally put off and did not trust that this was prepared in a hygienic environment.
It's safe to say I will not be going back to Ocean Dragon and I would not recommend it if you ever feel like treating yourself on a Friday night to a Chinese takeaway.
