Alton Towers Resort has unveiled details of a brand new ride opening in spring 2020.
The Stafforshire-based theme park is opening a new 4D attraction inspired by David Walliams' beloved book Gangsta Granny, and it's sure to be a hit with the whole family.
Gangsta Granny, published by HarperCollins Children's Books, tells the story of Ben who discovers that his Granny is secretly an international jewel thief.
The new ride will invite families to embark on the greatest heist in the world; stealing the Crown Jewels.
The resort promises a ride which will "whizz, twist and spin passengers 360° through a series of scenes", using state-of-the-art special effects, 3D projection mapping and heaps of animation inspired by the artwork of Tony Ross.
Alton Towers announced last year that it would be opening new land the World of David Walliams in 2020, although at the time it remained fairly tight-lipped about what would be on offer.
However, as well as sharing details of the new ride, the theme park has offered a glimpse of what the new land will entail, and we can't wait.
Highlights include the Royal Carousel, attraction Raj's Bouncy Bottom Burp, and even a themed boutique, Raj's Shop, all nestled throughout the themed area.
But that's not all.
The Alton Towers Hotel is also joining in on the fun, with four brand new themed rooms paying tribute to the Gangsta Granny.
David Walliams said of the new venture: "I'm absolutely thrilled that Gangsta Granny is becoming a ride at Alton Towers. I never imagined it would happen so it’s a real delight to see my characters brought to life in a ride.
"I've worked really closely with the team at Alton Towers to make sure the ride is just as funny and exciting as the book. I think children and their parents … and even their grandparents! … are going to love it!"
The new land comes amidst another exciting milestone for the resort, which will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
To celebrate the new land, Alton Towers is also inviting children to bring their Granny (or Grandpa) for FREE in 2020.
The deal is valid for one free adult aged 60 and over, with a full price child ticket. You can find out more on the Alton Towers website.
