The Royal Foresters in Ascot, Berkshire, review – The Sun

THE Royal Foresters is an almost perfect base camp for trips to Ascot racecourse, Legoland and Coral Reef swimming pool.

More than 140 years old, this hotel in the heart of Ascot has recently been given a revamp adding a modern twist to the historic building. 

1. Where is The Royal Foresters? 

The Royal Foresters is based in North Ascot, Berkshire. 

The hotel is within walking distance of the Ascot racecourse, home to the grandest events in British horse racing. 

The hotel is easily accessible by car and there are a number of train stations nearby including Bracknell and Martins Heron.

Travellers can take a bus from Bracknell station to outside the hotel. 

2. What is The Royal Foresters like? 

The Royal Foresters is a buzzing hotel and a real community hub. 

When we visited, young fellas enjoying post-work pints mixed with big families in the large outdoor terrace. 

The hotel’s star-piece is its restaurant, with such fabulous food you may be convinced to miss your day out all together. 

3. What to do at The Royal Foresters? 

The Royal Foresters is well placed for a trip to the Ascot racecourse or a family day out in Windsor.

The hotel has a number of special packages to take in the local sights.

The Windsor and River Cruise package – starting at £139 per room – includes a 30 minute river boat cruise along The River Thames and entry to Windsor Castle, as well as a complimentary two-course dinner.

Legoland Windsor and the Coral Reef Waterworld in Bracknell are both a short drive from the hotel for a family day out.

4. What is there to eat and drink at The Royal Foresters? 

The queue for takeaway pizzas on the Tuesday night we visited never ended, the scorched crusts far more Bologna than Berkshire are the perfect starter for two to share.

The young but perfectly informed staff explained exactly how their Josper grill is like having a sumptuous coal BBQ installed safely in their open-planned kitchen.

The Venetian crab bucatini was delicate and generous enough to feed a 34-year-old, spent from a morning at the Windsor theme park and an 18-month-old with a taste for the high life.

5. What are the rooms like at The Royal Foresters? 

The Royal Foresters has 24 rooms, each with their own modern decor including hand-painted lamps and boutique furniture.  

Ranging from standard doubles to superior and executive doubles, rooms start at £99 a night. 

The attention to finer details, like the Roberts radios and barista-level coffee machines, is excellent. 

Unfortunately when we visited in the summer, the air-con was broken in our room so they had to move us.
